Towards Decolonizing Diagnosis: a Critical Review and Suggested Alternatives

In this article, the authors present scope and nature of a global movement to modify or replace American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic Statistical Manual Mental Disorders (DSM-5, 2013). The review more contextually culturally affirming diagnostic models that have emerged over time. Steps advance new practices are suggested, with emphasis on importance client counselor input in informing paradigmatic shift away from current system.
